Exclusive Wind completes a hat-trick

By: Tippu Sultan   January 17 , 2017

Anupam Sharma trained Exclusive Wind completed a hat-trick of wins when he beat a strong challenge from Greek Star to land the spoils in the 1600 metres Telangana Cup, a race for horses rated 66 to 90, the feature event of Tuesday`s Hyderabad races. Jockey Trevor Patel had to persevere with the favourite to get the desired result as Greek Star put up a resolute fight.

Exclusive Wind was the on-money favourite to win the race as the progeny of Ravel was in top form this season. However, the competitive nature of the race was not indicated by the odds. However, it was not an easy outing for the favourite as Greek Star who was coming back in distance, overtook front-running Flower Roll UP and was not inclined to give up. An all-out effort by Trevor saw Exclusive Wind gain the berth in the closing stages of the race. Sensei finished on strongly to take the third place thereby indicating that his turn should come very soon.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Eternal Angel had advertised her readiness to strike when she had finished a fair fourth in her last outing. The extended trip suited her fine. Jockey N S Rathore had the favourite take over the running on entering the straight and the progeny of Serious Spender bounced clear to win the race by a good margin over Star Gazer and Rutilant. Rathore replaced Srinath in the saddle as the jockey was hurt during the loading of horses for the first race.

The 1600 metres Sunny Blossom Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50, the day`s opener, was a scrappy affair as two horses played up at the gates violently, forcing their withdrawal from the fray. Jockey Srinath on Super Grey was tossed out from his saddle and the horse was declared a non-starter as the jockey appeared to have been hurt by the fall. New Comer who started a chain reaction in the gates too was pulled out from the fray. Jockey Beuzelin Lewis had an armchair ride to victory on favourite Princess of Dreams who had the race sewn up long way from home. Darakshan Setarah who herself was restless at the gates was a faraway second ahead of Telangana Queen. Jockey Sai Kiran had a fall on Gun Barrel inside the final 300 metres. The good outcome though at the end of the day for jockey Beuzelin was that the four-day suspension he had picked up for ``unsatisfactory`` riding was set aside by the Appeal Board.

The 1400 metres Secunderabad Club Cup, a race for horses rated 46 to 70, saw lesser fancied Sea Castle win the race with the fancied runner from the stable Dream Vision finishing third. Little Smart Heart failed to perform to expectations and was not spotted at the busy end. Sea Castle shook off stablemate Dream Vision in the final furlong and marched ahead. Though Ans Ans Ans finished on powerfully, Sea Castle had enough cushion to reach the safety of the winning post.

Trainer K R K Raju`s horses are always enigmatic. When you expect them to perform well, they disappoint. The horses from the yard also have a way of giving nasty surprises. Bouncer who had finished 10th out of 12 runners in his last effort, swept the others off their feet from the word `go` and won the 1100 metres Perceived Value Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50 in tremendous fashion. Nelly and Golden Phoenix occupied the next two slots on the frame. Favourite Vijays delight gave a poor account of herself while running without hope.

Samba had run a fair race in both her outings and had an excellent chance of winning the 1400 metres Twin Star Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Samba was kept in a handy third position by apprentice jockey P K Gaddam. The favourite quickened soon after turning for home and stretched away for a facile win over Cannon Hope and Supurinto. The lower division of the race went the way of favourite Valee Tiger who appeared to be cut above the rest. Valee Tiger had no problems in keeping at bay the challenge of late-finishing Star Ruby to land the spoils. Whisper saved place money.

Laxman Singh trained Vijay`s Dynamite proved too good for the opposition in the 1200 metres Mount Everest Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 50. Vijay`s Dynamite stormed clear in the final furlong to win the race in fine fashion. Garib Parwar held off Vijay`s Honour to claim the third place. Ikigai who has been running almost every other week looked a tired horse and finished a poor fourth.
