Bandito springs a surprise on Excelerate

By: Stay Thirsty   August 1 , 2017

Girinath trained Bandito won the 1200 metres Star Supreme Plate, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Tuesday`s Mysore races at the expense of favourite Excelerate. The long shot unleashed a powerful run in the hands of apprentice jockey Nazerul Alam to measure the favourite in the closing strides of the race.

Excelerate took a long while to get the better of front-running Lucky Pineapple and by the time he got ahead in the final furlong, Bandito was breathing down his neck. Bandito picked up great speed in the final furlong, covered the leeway with ease and then overhauled the front-runner with a measure of comfort. Abderus ran on to displace Lucky Pineapple from the third position.

Vishal Yadav trained Dare The Don bounced back to win the 1200 metres Tapathi Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, by taking charge of the race inside the final 200 metres. Dreamliner enjoyed a big lead right from the start but began to slacken as the race came to the boil. Dare The Don moved with raking strides to easily get past the front-runner to win comfortably at long odds. Eloika made a late dash from way behind but had to be content with the runner-up berth. Dreamliner weakened to finish third.

The march of the long shots hurt the punters immensely as another Vishal Yadav trained Campeon produced a patented late burst to get the better of Anvill Star to win the 1400 metres Diabolic Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. The favourite aptly named The Imposter, graced the wrong end of the field and was never in the hunt. Haloween`s Way was third.

Prashanth Pawar led in a winner when Napolean Dynamite, also available at longer odds, produced a strong run in the home stretch to claim the 1400 metres Oxford Blue Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category. Favourite Ultimate Glory was lost in the crowd. Sazae San and Time Always occupied the next two slots behind the winner.

Monnappa trained Jolfa swamped the opposition in the 1200 metres Bol Publication Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Jolfa who enjoyed favouritism, assumed command in the final furlong and kept expanding the lead to eventually win by a margin of over four lengths. Point made a late dash to take the second place ahead of Domita.

Bipin Salvi trained Master of Universe was the most impressive winner of the day. The three-year-old colt by Dancing Forever simply left the field standing to win the 1200 metres Abide Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds to win by a widening margin of nine lengths despite being eased up a long way from home. Master of Universe appears a good type of a horse who should win a bagful of races at the local centre. Good Earth was second ahead of Silvery Grey.

Srinivas Babu trained Siddhi produced a strong run in the final stages of the race to claim the 1400 metres Sea Bisquit Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45 and won the race with something to spare. Favourite Excelonce led from the start but closer home failed to sustain the effort when Siddhi pounced on him with a powerful dash. The Disciple necked out Zoe to get the third position.
