Lady In Lace has a walk in the park in Guineas

By: Tippu Sultan   November 27 , 2017

Prasad Raju trained Lady In Lace whose profile went up after her smashing win in the Pune Derby in October, lived up to the reputation built by that performance as she literally walked past the opposition to win the Gr 2 Golconda 1000 Guineas in tremendous fashion at Malakpet on Monday. Jockey Suraj Narredu had to merely guide the daughter of Chinese Whisper to the task without having to move a muscle. Lady In Lace is next scheduled to clash against the giants of Mumbai, Ruffina and Manifold in the Indian 1000 Guineas in December.

Lady In Lace was the shortest priced horse for this race in a long time. This was so because there was not even a threat perception from any of the horses that lined up for the race. After Malawi led the field into the straight with a start to finish mission, Mahateji took charge. Even as the horses in the fray were all being ridden out, Lady In Lace zoomed past them with the jockey enjoying the ride on the filly. Lady In Lace stormed past the opposition and won pulling up by three lengths which could have been more than doubled if the jockey had wished. Mahateji held off Mansuetude to get the runner-up berth.

Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Sea Fairey recorded a win after nearly a year when getting the better of local opponents in an interesting finish of the 1200 metres Ghulam Ahmed Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 75 and above. Anant Vatsalya trained Amorous White who is in great shape did not have a free run in front as King of Pop led and refused to budge from that position. It took the length of the straight for Amorous White to nose out the front-runner but by that time, Sea Fairey had produced a big effort on the wide outside and sailed past the battling duo to win by a length. Preciosa was a close fourth.

Laxman Singh trained Dance Oh Dance proved too superior to the opposition in the 1200 metres Windscale Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Suraj had Dance Oh Dancer lead from the start and the favourite skipped beyond the reach of the rest in the final furlong to win easily from hard-ridden Warrior Supreme. Snow Castle held off Good Opinion to get the third position.

Leo D`Silva trained Corfe Castle made a smashing debut in the 1100 metres Brave Dancer Plate (Div I), a race for two-year-olds. The full brother to Ruffina along with Alexanderthegreat cornered all the betting. Corfe Castle was off to a hesitant start from the wide outside draw and was gracing the rear group. But David Allan did not panic, got the horse to get into his rhythm and brought the horse with a powerful run. He pushed Corfe Castle through a narrow gap between two horses inside the final furlong. The progeny of Excellent Art shot off like a scalded cat and it took a long while after the winning post for the horse to be pulled up. Corfe Castle appears to be as talented as his full sister. Icon Grey and Laser Beam occupied the next two slots on the frame. Alexanderthegreat performed miserably and one was surprised at the confidence with which he was backed to win. The lower division of the race was won by Srinivas Reddy trained Man Apart who toyed with the opposition to win by a widening margin of five lengths over Nimble Mind who just about got the better of Meka`s to get the second position.

Donald Netto trained Platinum Classz had a few forward efforts and hence had better credentials in the mediocre field that was in the fray for the 1400 metres Blue Bird Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. However, Sequeira`s Dancing Away attracted big volume of money in the ring. In the event, apprentice jockey Rohit Kumar took Platinum Classz to the front and the progeny of Lord Admiral stayed put in that position to win quite comfortably from late-rallying Dancing Away who frittered away the chance by not having the speed to stay in touch with the front-runner. The Division II of the race saw first timer Novaturient come in for spirited betting which resulted in the odds on Island Queen expanding. Novaturient ran green and was never in with a chance. Island Queen took over the running with two furlongs left in the race and sped away for an effortless win. Rohini held off Novaturient to get the runner-up berth. Lesser fancied Withrosemakeup won the Division III of the race quite easily. Apprentice jockey Gopal Singh brought Withrosemakeup with a strong effort along the rails and the speedy customer had the race sewn up a long way from home. Blue Angel finished on well to take the second position by a whisker from Tough Princess and Top Spot. The last three named finished in a line.
