Adam continues good run in Hyderabad

By: Tippu Sultan   January 29 , 2018

Pesi Shroff-trained Adam has made Hyderabad a happy hunting ground. The dual Sprinters Cup winner had last year struck from on the Malakpet track and qualified to run in the Sprinters Cup that was held in Bangalore and won the race to get the unique distinction of winning the premier event back to back. Since then Adam hadn`t won any race but found the familiar settings and the favourable terms of the race suiting him as he recorded an emphatic win over local champions Chase Your Dreams and Amorous White to win the Gr 3 Kakatiya Million, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races.

The eight-year-old Adam was favoured by the terms of the race he was carrying level weight with not so well accomplished performers. Though older, Adam in normal circumstances would have been giving chunks of weight to opponents. Even in the Sprinters Cup too he would have been giving weight to four-year-olds. Amorous White who had a bagful of wins went on a start to finish mission which is his forte but closer home, could not sustain the lead as Adam pounced on him with a powerful acceleration to seal the race well before the winning post. Chase Your Dreams who had the services of David Allan, managed to peg back Amorous White and avenge her defeat thanks to the driving finish of the jockey. Likewise, was not far behind in the fourth position.

Satheesh trained Euro Zone was well backed to win the 2400 metres Adler Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62 though he did not enjoy clear-cut superiority. Euro Zone led the field till approaching the final bend at which point, the day`s successful jockey Akshay Kumar pushed Reunion to take charge. The progeny of Dancing Forever smoothly accelerated and stretched away from Dahlois to record a big win. Euro Zone who sent distress signals the moment he was challenged, fell back to finish poorly in faraway fourth position.

In keeping with the trend of only short priced horses running as favourites obliging, both the divisions of 1400 metres Anmol Ratan Plate were won by such horses. Barnabas led the field deep into the straight and put up a strong resistance before favourite Staridar asserted his supremacy in the hands of jockey Suraj Narredu. Golden Fortune who was the only horse nearby, took the third position. Vittal Deshmukh trained Durango warmed up to the task approaching the final furlong and collared those in front to record a convincing win over Alta Vita in the lower division of the race. Mark My Word was third.

Laxman Singh trained Lazer Beam seized the initiative soon after turning for home and broke clear to win the 1100 metres Baile Lalith Pershad Memorial Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds from late-rallying Evon Von Brando. Yogya was third. Lesser fancied La Mer produced a strong run in the final furlong to measure the front-running City of Ayaansh and then held off the late bid of Jazz It Up to land the spoils in the lower division of the race for trainer Faisal Hassan. There was a cluster finish for the third place with Once More getting it at the expense of favourite Tiger of the Sea and City of Ayaansh.

Whenever Leo D`Silva trained San Vinto got the late-finishing act right, he has prevailed. It was so again in the 1600 metres Original Vel V Balasubramani Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. San Vinto ran on strongly to win the race from Valee Tiger who shaped like a winner. Lady Admiral snatched the third place from longtime leader Escobar.

Faisal Hassan trained Born To Do It was well backed to win the 1100 metres Hovercraft Plate, a race for horses rated up to 30. Born To Do It established a winning lead going into the final furlong which held the favourite in good stead as he began to slacken close home. Cashel closed with a rush only to find the front-runner escape to victory by the proverbial whisker. Mastaani headed Yes Baby for the third place.
