Shohin demonstrate his superior class

By: Goldie Boy   July 17 , 2018

Trainer Bharath Singh 10/1 shot, Shohin (Dashrath Singh) claimed the 1,200m Amazing Handicap, on Tuesday, but it was a small mercy on an afternoon that also witnessed a friendless winner in Divine Magic (Ranidan Singh) while winners likes Moira (Hindu Singh) and Iconia (app. Nikhil Naidu) hardly found much support in the betting in the seven-event card. The favourites, too, had their share of wins but failed to dilute the overall damages caused by the popular choices.

Trainer Vijay Singh, jockeys app. Naidu and Ranidan were, however, all smile, having notched-up a brace of wins apiece.

Shohin demonstrated his superior class, in the filed of 12 but the likes of Multiple (Nikhil), Arakawah (Hindu) – both last out convincing winners – and Multivalue (C.S. Jodha) attracted support between 5s and 6s in an open betting race. Multiple and Arakawah did perform purposefully and also raised hopes; until Shohin put in a winning gallop from the mid-division, 250m from the post. Multiple did delay Shohin`s victory run till 100m from home but the defeat of the Vijay-ward looked inevitable.

Divine Magic (Ranidan), trainer Shafiq Khan`s new import from western India, was the other one who cashed in on his superior class, in the 1,200m Raghuvansh Cup. Gracing the wrong-end of the field, the five-year-old simply ate up the ground, on the wide out, in the home straight to beat Manvendra Singh`s Tiberon (Hindu), who was being hailed as a winner.

Vijay finished his quota of a double, early in the afternoon. Starting off with the narrow victory of his baby, Iconia (Nikhil), over Javed Khan`s The Kiss (Jodha), in the 1,100m Dominate Plate, Vijay`s packed up after his 2/1 favourite, Victoriana (Nikhil) delivered the goods in the1,1100m Sir Aali Handicap.

Iconia pounced on the front-running, The Kiss as the tiring even-money favourite, was a beaten horse 50m from home. Victoriana, on the other hand, made sure of her winning chances, below the distance post after the early leaders, Millenium Glory (Hindu), Logano (app. Rupal Singh) and Eastern Star, the joint favourites, called it a day.

Moira`s expanding odds – from 6/4 to 5/1 – was a worry factory for filly`s followers in the 1,100m Avaglow Handicap, thanks to the trainer Manvendra absence from the ground, for personal reasons. The four-year-old Victoriana was held back, in fourth till about 250m from home and established a winning lead 200m from home to score easily.

Trainer Raunak Banerjie`s 9/4 favourite Big (C. Alford) also won un-hassled in the 1,400m Arapahoe Handicap. Allowing Artificial to call the shot till about 150m from home the four-year-old colt found the target easily.

Trainer Sarfraz Khan`s 9/4 favourite Constance (Ranidan) also produced his customary late run from the wrong-end of the field, on the wide out, to beat Vijay Smith And Wesson (Azharuddin) in the 1,600m Replicate Handicap. Jasbir Singh`s joint-favourite, Cool Conqueror (app. R.S. Bhati) was slowly out and yet placed a decent third.
