Missing You makes a winning comeback

By: Frankel   October 25 , 2019

Dallas Todywalla trained Missing You made a winning comeback after a listless performance during the Bangalore Summer Season, beating a modest lot of horses with ease in the 1600 metres General Rajendrasinhji Million, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Friday`s Pune races. The Poonawalla Multi-Million winner Missing You created a fine impression by this runaway win.

Missing You had run twice during the summer season and both her runs were disappointing. After these two efforts, Missing You was given a long break and was entered for the fray with the benefit of a good mock race. Jockey Sandesh had no hesitation in taking Missing You on a start to finish mission. The progeny of Arazan proved that she was a cut above the opposition as she led without coming under pressure and skipped away in the stretch to win by a comfortable margin of over three lengths. Majestic Warrior who was at the rear till turning for the homestretch, covered places in the straight to finish second ahead of Kariega while Mystic Bay who had his share of supporters was a disappointing fourth, looking a lost cause well before the race came to the boil.

Altamash trained Ebony recorded her second win from 19 starts when she easily tackled the front-running Abraxas in the stretch and sailed clear to win the 1000 metres Golfing Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Transform ran on to take the second position ahead of the long-time leader Abraxas. Truly Grit was strongly backed to win but apprentice jockey Ayyar messed up the job totally. He was drawn one and raced close to the rails. He was unmindful of the fact that he was too close to the rails till he bumped against it and lost ground and a possible chance of a win. Ayyar doesn`t seem to have improved despite being in the field for a couple of years. Incidentally, both the wins of Ebony have come on the Pune track during the current season.

Yash Narredu drove out Storm Breaker to a resolute win in the 1200 metres Star Shine Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 46. Storm Breaker had failed over the trip of seven furlongs earlier in the season but the six-furlong trip and the modest opposition were both the liking of Storm Breaker who asserted his supremacy in the final furlong shooting ahead of Namaqua and skipping clear beyond the reach of late rallying Double Nine. Slam Dunk who set the pace stayed on to take the third spot. Namaqua whose both wins have come over a trip of five furlongs was less effective over the extended trip. Apprentice jockey Gagandeep Mann had a bad fall on El Comandante. Altaf Hussain trained Silver Flames recorded an encore in style in the lower division of the race. Silver Flames took a handy position as the speedy Impala set the pace. Silver Flames took over the running at the top of the straight and spurted clear giving no chance for favourite Pablo to come anywhere near winning by a widening margin of five lengths. Flower Dust was third more than three lengths behind the runner-up.

Jager Bomb from the stables of Imtiaz Sait won the 2400 metres Shamu Chavan Trophy, a race for horses rated 20 to 46 with a great deal of ease. Jockey Neeraj Rawal had Jager Bomb within striking reach of the front-runners with Dazzle N Daze attempting runaway tactics. Midway through the straight, Jager Bomb took control of the race and went away for an easy win over Brazos who was kept too far behind by Sandesh to have a realistic chance of catching up with the eventual winner. Sandesh relaxed too long on Brazos and had to come wide into the straight besides having conceded too much ground to Jager Bomb. Favourite Gold Medallist ran on to take the third position.

Apprentice jockey Pranil brought Gandalf from way off the pace to get the nod in the closing stride of the race over Dragonmoss in the 1400 metres Shapath Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest category. Gandalf got a good run on the wide outside after Pranil pulled him out. The lesser fancied runner devoured ground and managed to pull off an exciting win. Favourite Nusrat was third. Lesser fancied Shapath had it easy in the lower division of the race. From about the third position at the final bend, Shapath took over the running on straightening for home and spurted clear in the hands of jockey T S Jodha and won comfortably from late-finishing Highland Wind and Velvet Vibes in his 15th outing. Five-year-old Highland Wind who is yet to break the maidens` rank from 21 outings was still made the favourite which itself reflected on the quality of the field in the fray.
